August 31st was the deadline for the submission of evidence to the government’s Childcare Commission.
The commission will report back during the autumn, but research carried out by Mumsnet prior to its establishment found that 77 per cent of respondents agreed that there is a need for the government to do more to support parents. Childcare voucher provider Busy Bees Benefits has lent them its support – its ‘Mind the Gap – Raise the Cap’ campaign aims to persuade MPs to increase the weekly childcare voucher cap allowance from £55 to £75, increasing parents’ annual savings by over £300 while also helping childcare providers keep their places filled. The e-petition, which already has over 13,000 signatures, can be found at tinyurl.com/tnepet
