MiniBrum is Thinktank’s very own mini city, where children are in charge!
This interactive gallery is aimed at children under 8 years old. It’s an exciting child-sized world that features recognisable landmarks, such as the Birmingham canals, Selfridges and the Old Joe Clock Tower at the University of Birmingham.
There are several different play zones for children to discover and enjoy.
In the home area children can build their own dens, in the burrow they can find the hidden animals and in the workshop they’ll fix a car engine, change a tyre and make their own mini racecars.
The gallery has been created in collaboration with schools, families and community groups and it allows children to explore and question their understanding of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) world around them.
Through play, the city gives children the confidence to think like scientists in real-life scenarios where they will be testing their ideas, problem solving and creating.
Join us on site for a fun and playful STEM workshop designed especially for our youngest learners.
Encourage children to understand the importance of washing their hands as they discover the super science behind the germs that live around, on and inside of us!
Meet the cuddle bug, explore the difference between good and bad germs and try out fun and colourful handwashing experiments. You’ll finish off this session with a fun, musical twist as children learn Thinktank’s special handwashing song!
Explore, experiment, problem-solve, create and build. Do you have a class of future engineers? Come and find out with this playful and active design and build workshop!
Using the Imagination Playground blocks and through storytelling, games and playful challenges this session encourages teamwork, resilience and scientific thinking.
Children can play and explore and actively learn through trial and error.
Plus, if you can’t leave your school Birmingham Museums can bring MiniBrum to you with a virtual session!
The team have designed a series of science-based live stream shows from Thinktank that can be transmitted directly from the site to provide real-time interactions and experiments!
Experience playful sessions designed specially for your EYFS and KS1 learners, without leaving school!
Introduce scientific thinking to your class with brand-new fun science show for mini scientists, where learners will get the chance to make predictions and record their observations while enjoying the colourful ‘wow’ experiment demonstrations.
